What is “Submental Fullness”?
Commonly referred to as the dreaded “double chin,” submental fullness is an aesthetic concern that develops amongst both men and women. While the condition isn’t considered a medical concern, the development of a double chin can harm a patient’s self-confidence. According to a recent survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, around 67% of people reported that the thing they dislike the most about their appearance is their double chin.
When extra skin is combined with submental fullness, this can detract from a balanced face symmetry, leaving an individual with features that can make them look older and heavier than they actually are. Another issue people find is that in many cases, diet and exercise will not sufficiently reduce submental fullness. Even with the most dedicated exercise and diet, individuals cannot remove their double chin altogether. Certain factors such as genetics, aging, and weight gain can contribute to the development of a double chin. Still, nothing should keep you from feeling your absolute best and achieving your desired facial aesthetic.
