What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling has been considered an anti-aging technique because of its ability to help with the appearance of fine lines, age spots, and uneven texture that come with aging. However, in recent years, it has advanced so far past that because of what it’s capable of doing for the skin. Microneedling rejuvenates the skin by creating incredibly small micro-injuries, or punctures, to the surface of the soft tissue.

These micro-injuries kick-start your body’s natural ability to heal by promoting the production of collagen and elastin. As we age, certain body parts like the face, neck, and decollates begin to lose these essential compounds that support their overall structure and appearance. Loss of elastin causes the skin to sag, and slowed collagen production creates the appearance of sallow, deflated skin and wrinkles. By making these small wounds, microneedling tricks the body into producing an influx of these rejuvenating compounds. RF Microneedling follows the same process as traditional microneedling but adds some flair by incorporating radio frequency (RF) into the treatment to produce stunning results.

What Is Microneedling With Radiofrequency?

Microneedling with radio frequency (RF) delivers radio frequency energy through the miniature needles used for the traditional microneedling procedure. The RF is able to penetrate to the deeper layers of skin, further supporting scar reduction, skin tightening, and the production of collagen and elastin. Plus, because the RF is able to reach deeper layers of skin than typical microneedling, you’ll also notice faster and considerably more dramatic results.

Like traditional microneedling, the device creates tiny micro-injuries in the skin’s surface to help stimulate the body’s growth factors that produce collagen and elastin. As these wounds heal, the surrounding tissue becomes slightly inflamed, increasing blood flow to the area and encouraging new tissue development. During the second phase of recovery, new connective tissue is created, as well as blood vessels, and collagen and elastin. This sets the stage for tighter, smoother skin by the end of your recovery.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Thousand Oaks RF Microneedling?

RF Microneedling can be effectively used on all skin types, tones, and textures. Whereas some laser-based rejuvenation procedures can cause hyperpigmentation in darker-toned skin, you won’t have to worry about that with microneedling since this device doesn’t depend on light to restore the tone and texture of soft tissue but rather on the natural healing process of your own body. Treatment also includes versatile needling lengths and diverse applications. As such, Dr. Taqi recommends RF Microneedling for almost all patients looking for results without the risk of more hyperpigmentation.

What To Expect From Your RF Microneedling Treatment

Another reason why patients love RF Microneedling is the easily managed treatment and recovery process. Starting with a thorough consultation, our Thousand Oaks skin specialists will evaluate the degree of your skin condition to confirm the solution is right for you. During your initial visit, they will also determine the correct needle length and the number of procedures needed to achieve your skin goals. The number of treatments can range anywhere from three to six sessions, with about a month of recovery time between each appointment. The four-to-six-week intervals help to ensure consistent collagen and elastin recovery without overwhelming your body.

Compared to some other skin rejuvenation treatments, the microneedling process is nearly painless. At the start of your RF Microneedling session, our specialist will administer a topical anesthetic to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible throughout your treatment. The device will then be applied across the targeted area, with most patients only feeling a slight vibration of the tool— not necessarily the effect of the punctures. Most treatment sessions only last 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Once your treatment is over, most patients feel well enough to return to their regular routine. Before you leave the office, Dr. Taqi or your specialist will provide you with clear instructions on how to care for your skin while it heals. It is important that you follow these instructions to ensure you achieve the results you want.

Recovery from RF Microneedling varies from patient to patient. Some experience slight inflammation and redness across the face for a few days after their treatment, and others may heal within a day of their procedure. As such, it’s essential to follow all post-treatment instructions and contact your dermatologist if any irritation or redness continues beyond a week.
